GOOD NEWS AND SUCCESS STORIES - OLDBURY CENTRE

STUDY PROGRAMME

Good news:

Nova Training, Oldbury have been in talks recently with a local access to apprenticeships training provider, TLE Engineering.  These provide young people aged 16-24 with a unique opportunity to develop “hands on” practical engineering skills with local engineering companies.  The programme itself runs for 3 months and combines work placements, off the job training and the opportunity to gain accredited elements towards an apprenticeship.

Only 15 spaces in total were available, reduced to four by the time the contract was well established.  From our cohort of learners and our understanding as a team of their interests, goals, career preferences and abilities we worked together to identify suitable learners to go forward for interview.  We spoke to them on a one-to-one basis first to establish their interest and they subsequently completed the relevant paperwork and application form.  All other learners were offered the opportunity, also, to ensure equal opportunities for all.

Out of our learners only 5 decided that they wanted to put forward applications which were taken to TLE for consideration.  All five were given the opportunity to attend an interview and gladly accepted.  They came into centre before the interviews and all were very smartly dressed and well prepared with their CVs and certificates ready to show if required.

A follow up call the next day to TLE provided excellent feedback of all our learners who were described as bright, friendly, enthusiastic and motivated.  They were all put forward to complete further assessments on which they would then either be offered a place on their Access to Apprenticeship programme or reconsidered for the next enrolment.

Upon completion and submission of assessments which were done in centre, four of our learners were offered the final places.  In 3 months time, with hard work and dedication, 4 more apprentice engineers will be welcomed into the UK workforce!  Well Done, lads!
