Taster Days

If you can't make up your mind about what you want to do then the perfect way to decide is to participate in one of Nova's Taster Days. These are held throughout the academic year and enable learners to experience different vocations. For further information please contact us.

Female only taster days

We're trying to raise participation in Motor Vehicle and Construction and welcome applications from girls.  We also offer exclusive "girls only" where you can come and have a go and see if it's something you like. See below for some pictures of our last event.

What this space as we will soon be publishing the dates for our next FREE taster days.

Nova Training's Independent Special School (ISP) - Primrose Hill, Dudley

For 2011/12 Nova Training is seeking to establish its Dudley centre as an ISP. Establishing our centre as an ISP will enable us to complement our vocational education programmes with further elements of the national curriculum. We hope to provide full time education for a large number KS4 pupils from Dudley and neighbouring Local Authorities.

Our Curriculum

The development of this provision sits well within our vision, mission and values below.

OUR VISION
Through a socially inclusive approach we will stimulate demand for learning from employers, adults and young people, improve literacy, numeracy, language and ICT skills so that individuals have the skills for employment and further skill development.

MISSION STATEMENT
To create and sustain an environment where staff can deliver an innovative, challenging, quality, exciting and inspiring learning experience that meets the needs of learners, non-learners and employers in the local community.

OUR VALUES
Nova believes:
• In placing Learners at the centre of all plans and activities
• In striving for the highest standards in providing Equality of Opportunity for learners and in maximising the benefits of diversity.
• In setting and monitoring targets in respect of participation, retention and achievement for all groups of learners.
• In embedding equality and diversity into its policies, programmes and actions.
• In valuing our staff who are considered as equal partners in delivery of the company’s vision.

ADMISSIONS

Most pupils are referred by Local Authorities or neighbouring schools.  Our school manages the referrals process and has a strong record of engaging and succeeding with the pupils they work with. Many of our pupils may have a long history of rejection and exclusion.

Most pupils referred will have Special Educational Needs (which in most cases will be formalised with a Statement of SEN).  Pupils who are referred to us do not have to be statemented.  In most cases the presenting reason for referral will be Social, Emotional, Behavioural Difficulties although the young people referred are likely to present a range of other difficulties such as speech and language difficulties, mild dyslexia, dyspraxia, ADHD, ADD and Aspergers Syndrome.  Some of the young people referred to us will, in addition, be awaiting court hearings or be on bail conditions and some will be young offenders on supervision orders.

We also welcome referrals for pupils in public care with SEN for whom there is no reasonable prospect of reintegration into mainstream school or services.

To refer a pupil in the first instance please contact Bill Buckingham, Head Teacher on 01902 366278

Discipline and Exclusions

Our approach to behaviour management and discipline including exclusions is detailed in our learner disciplinary procedure link below. The policy will be enforced as a last resort and after all non-formal remedies have been exhausted. It is the Nova's policy to help, support and include young people wherever practicable.
